Belarus: BTRC confirms participation in Eurovision 2016

BTRC, the Belarusian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Belarus will participate at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in May next year.

BTRC is currently evaluating various mechanisms in order to select its Eurovision entry. The Belarusian broadcaster will reveal its plans for Eurovision 2016 along with the format it use to select its entry and act for Stockholm in due course.

Belarus is the 15th country to confirm its participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest and thus joins; Ireland, Germany, France, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Belgium and The Netherlands.

In 2015 Belarus selected its Eurovision entry via a national final. Uzari & Maimuna were awarded the golden ticket to Vienna with their entry Time. Despite an energetic performance the country failed to qualify to the grand final.

Belarus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best result in the contest was in 2007 with Koldun‘s Work your magic, when Belarus placed 6th.

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
