Czech Republic: CT confirms participation in Eurovision 2016

CT, Cezka Televize, the Czech national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that the Czech Republic will compete at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest next year in Stockholm.

The Czech Republic is the 16th country to confirm its participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Thus the country joins Switzerland, Germany, France, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Belgium, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and The Netherlands all whom have confirmed their presence at next year’s Eurovision party! Whilst Albania and Cyprus have confirmed to ESCToday that they are more than likely to compete next year.

The method and mechanism CT will use to select the 2016 Czech entry is yet to be determined. More details will be revealed in due course.

In 2015 the Czech Republic returned to the Eurovision Song Contest returned to the contest after after a 5 year absence. The country went internal and selected Marta Jandova and Vaclav Noid Bartas to fly the Czech flag in Vienna with their entry Hope never dies. Despite an energetic performance the Czechs failed to qualify to the grand final.

The Czech Republic is a young country at the Eurovision Song Contest, it debuted in the competition in 2007 with Kabat and is yet to win the event. 2016 will see the country’s 5th Eurovision particiption.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10,12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
